Writing Systems

I have so many writing systems that sometimes I confuse myself. Then wonder (as do others) why I can’t just stick with one system, write everything in one place.

Each systems has a distinct purpose and these different purposes affect both style and method.

Of course, problems arise when purposes overlap and boundaries are unclear. The world, and our thinking about the world, is not so neatly boxed and labelled. Yes, even those of us who are unapologetic catalogers understand the limitations of our craft. Imposing order is a creative act, an artistic act. Entirely subjective but our contribution. Our lens.

So, when I don’t have a clear idea of what I’m going to write, when I’m writing to explore or tease out ideas…I jot them on any scrap of paper. Because deciding which place to begin is often enough to keep me from beginning.
