Historical Perspective

While reading a guide book on Nevada (in preparation for our vacation to Lake Tahoe), I came across the photo caption “The old Minden Flour Mill dates from 1906”.

I showed it to the Mancunian and said, “Wow. They really have a different idea of what constitutes “old” here. Just think of that house down the street from your Mom’s that was built in 1787…and it’s considered just an ordinary house.”

AJM replied, “Old!?! 1906 is not old. I’ve shat in toilets older than that.”

“At Oxford?”

“Even in Manchester.”
