Great Sand Dunes National Park

Drove about three hours south to the high desert of the San Luis Valley in order to see the Great Sand Dunes. They are much larger than any of these photos convey. Even standing on them you have no sense of how big they are because there’s no features to provide scale. You look up and think ti won’t take long to get to the top and then you trudge and trudge and don’t seem to be making any progress at all. Although it wasn’t hot, we made it only about two-thirds of the way to the top. Still very thin air. We did have a fun running down. It’s like being at the beach without the ocean.
