{"id":2399,"date":"2008-11-02T18:05:23","date_gmt":"2008-11-02T23:05:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/gardenlog\/?p=2399"},"modified":"2017-07-20T15:02:07","modified_gmt":"2017-07-20T20:02:07","slug":"sorrow-for-my-enemy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/garden-critters\/sorrow-for-my-enemy\/","title":{"rendered":"Sorrow for my enemy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I rounded the corner of the failed garden house and was stopped cold in my tracks by this sight.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/photos\/400\/raccoonDead1.jpg\" alt=\"dead raccoon\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I held very still, thinking I&#8217;d just come upon him unawares but then I realized he was lying on the ground and flies were hovering. I knew he must be dead.<\/p>\n<p>He cannot have been dead very long because I didn&#8217;t notice him at noon when I took the compost out to the pile. Nor have the ants found him yet.<\/p>\n<p>But how did he die? There isn&#8217;t a mark on him. And no, for all my railing against the raccoons, I didn&#8217;t kill him by poison or any other means. There is nothing in my own back yard to have poisoned him accidentally either.<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/photos\/400\/raccoonDead3.jpg\" alt=\"dead raccoon\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t rejoice in his death. I didn&#8217;t wish him harm.
