At first light this morning, I was exploring the overgrown jungle that is my garden at the moment. (Okay&#8230;actually I drenched myself in mosquito repellant and combed over the garden with a flashlight as soon as I had my bags in the door last night.) I heard that Texas had rain in my absence but Good Grief! As a result Zanthan Gardens is much more green and floriferous than usual for July. I see a lot of weeding in my future. It&#8217;s good to be home!\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Abelia grandiflora<\/li>\n<li>Antigonon leptopus<\/li>\n<li>Asclepias curassavica<\/li>\n<li>Canna &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/gardenlog\/archives\/001436.html\">Bangkok Yellow<\/a>&#8216;<\/li>\n<li>chili pequin<\/li>\n<li>Commelina erecta (day flower) &#8212; the weedy perennial. I much prefer its false cousin)<\/li>\n<li>Cosmos bipinnatus<\/li>\n<li>Cosmos sulphureus&#8211;some new life for the summer garden<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/gardenlog\/archives\/002123.html\">Duranta erecta<\/a> &#8212; finally bloomed this year and looks great<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/plants\/hibiscusSyriacus.html\">Hibiscus syriacus<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/plants\/myrtle.html\">Lagerstroemia indica<\/a> Finally! They look stunning all over Austin right now.<\/li>\n<li>Lantana &#8216;New Gold&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>Lantana montevidensis &#8212; one white flower<\/li>\n<li>Lavandula heterophyla &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/gardenlog\/archives\/000161.html\">Goodwin Creek Grey<\/a>&#8216;<\/li>\n<li>Malvaviscus arboreus<\/li>\n<li>Mirabilis jalapa pink<\/li>\n<li>Mirabilis jalapa RHS red<\/li>\n<li>monkey grass<\/li>\n<li>Oenothera speciosa (evening primrose)<\/li>\n<li>Oxalis triangularis<\/li>\n<li>Nerium oleander &#8216;Turner&#8217;s Shari D.&#8217; &#8212; full, gorgeous bloom<\/li>\n<li>Plumbago auriculata<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/plants\/polanisia.html\">Polanisia dodecandra<\/a> &#8212; still in full bloom<\/li>\n<li>rose &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/gardenlog\/archives\/001642.html\">Blush Noisette<\/a>&#8216; &#8212; a few flowers still<\/li>\n<li>rose &#8216;Heritage&#8217;<\/li>\n<li>rose &#8216;Madame Alfred Carriere<\/li>\n<li>rosemary (unusual for summer here)<\/li>\n<li>Rudbeckia hirta &#8212; fading<\/li>\n<li>Ruellia (Mexican petunia)<\/li>\n<li>Sedum album (white stonecrop)<\/li>\n<li>Tradescantia pallida (purple heart)<\/li>\n<li>Tulbaghia violacea (society garlic) Thanks, Pam!<\/li>\n<li>Verbena canadensis<\/li>\n<li>Vitus agnus-castus &#8212; a couple of flowers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nI&#8217;ve been keeping (rather erratic) records on what blooms in Zanthan Gardens since 1995 in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/year\/inbloom07.html\">In Bloom Calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><img width=\"320\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/gardens\/photos\/320\/20070715a.jpg\" alt=\"Zanthan Gardens July 15, 2007\" \/><br \/><i>2007-07-15. Returning from vacation I find that the grass is about a foot high and the garden is completely overgrown.
