I appreciate people writing to say they&#8217;ve missed my updates (thanks Pam and Rantor). I really don&#8217;t know what&#8217;s wrong with me. It&#8217;s as if the gardening fever has run its course. Is that possible? I thought that once the bug had bit, you were a gardener forever. And for the last ten years I&#8217;ve spent several hours a day in the garden and almost as much time again writing or reading about gardens.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nIn July I went on vacation, and in a sense I&#8217;ve never really come back. Rather than taking pleasure in puttering around, I&#8217;ve been avoiding the garden as one more thing on my to do list. In part, the weather has been discouraging. I&#8217;m so tired of this heat and humidity (and mosquitoes). But mostly I feel overwhelmed. I simply have no energy to face the rampant growth that this very wet summer and fall have wrought. The great irony of this is that I&#8217;m under absolutely no pressure&#8211;no work, no school. So you&#8217;d think I&#8217;d be able to direct all my energies to gardening. Apparently, I operate much better with deadlines!<\/p>\n<p>What little energy I do have has been directed toward <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zanthan.com\/wordsintobytes\/index.html\">other projects<\/a>. And I&#8217;ve been thick into home improvements&#8211;painting rooms, refinishing floors, moving people and furniture around.<\/p>\n<p>A change in the weather is promised for Texas next Tuesday, November 2.
