Smart Car, Intelligent Design

The Smart Car is coming! The Smart Car is coming!

For awhile it looked as if the Smart Car would never make it to America. There was even talk of the oxymoron SmartSUV. But this week, DaimlerChrysler announced that they are bringing the smart fortwo whose length is about the width of an Suburban to our shores in 2008. Hmmm. I might just be in the market for a car by then.

When we were in Oxford two years ago, I saw my first Smart Car and immediately fell in love.

Starting with my Dad's '65 Triumph Herald which I learned to drive in, I've always been a small car person. My own first car was a '77 Triumph Spitfire. That was followed by an '84 Mazda RX-7 and then an '85 RX-7. Now I have a '95 Mazda MX-5 (Miata).

Although the Miata has less than 60,000 miles on it, I know that someday I'll need a new car. And now I know I want a Smart Car. Maybe by the time I'll get around to needing a new car, they'll be available in the US.

Yeah, the kids and I saw those in Rome when we were there in 2000. We loved them too, and couldn't believe how grown men could fit into them. We even saw several SMALLER cars.

Love that Smart Car. I heard that they were going to import a Smart SUV into the States (I'm not kidding!) but I haven't heard that mentioned lately.
