Harry Potter Chapter 1 Stats
- new kanji: 29
- review kanji: 17
- new compounds: 51
One of my goals in reading Harry Potter is to increase my vocabulary. Given that every page so far is filled with words I don't know, I have no shortage of words to study. Just the opposite. I'm overwhelmed. So, I'm focusing on words written with kanji first, for a couple of reasons. Every new kanji learned is a key to dozens more words. And for me it's just easier to associate a meaning with a kanji, which provides a sound and a graphic, than to learn words by sound alone.
