Generally Speaking
It's raining today, so I'm going study Japanese. Yesterday, our Japanese teacher had a question [for us | for my class]. "What is your favorite Japanese movie?" Wow! It's hard [for me] to say...There's lots of Japanese movies I like. In 1986, I saw "Tampopo". It was funny and enjoyable. [Of course, I like the classics like] "Ran," "The Seven Samurai," and "Kagemusha", but "Tampopo" remained my favorite. But in 1991, I saw "My Neighbor Totoro". It was great! so beautiful and nostalgic! All of Miyazaki's movies are wonderful, but I love "Totoro" the most. And then I saw "Afterlife". It's so interesting and strange. I think it's my favorite. Have you seen it? Go see it!
Hmmm. I just looked out the window. Now it's bright and sunny. Well...bye.

Wow, very kawaii style today, isn't it?
When modified, the noun comes last in Japanese.
movies ← I like : 私が好きな→映画
「(私の)好きな日本映画はたくさんあるよ」
By the way, I haven't seen any of the movies you mentioned here. I saw 「千と千尋の神隠し」on TV this year, though.

Yeah, we have a chapter test next Monday on the plain forms of verbs and adjectives and the ~te forms...so I thought I'd practice.
Your correction brought up another problem I have: knowing when to use takusan vs. ooi.
So what is your favorite Japanese movie?

"多い" sounds a little more formal.
"たくさん" is used with 「ある、あります」. 「好きな映画はたくさんある」「あるよ」「あります」
"多い" is used as it is, or with 「です」. 「好きな映画は多い」「多いよ」「多いです」
When modifying a noun, the forms should be 「たくさんの」and 「多くの」, as in 「たくさんの映画」and 「多くの映画」.
Actually, I haven't seen a lot of Japanese movies. I think you know more about them. ;) Well...an anime film, 「蛍の墓 (ほたるのはか)」was so moving and sad. And I like Ozu's films.

Thanks for the explanation...you make a lot more sense than my textbook!
There are a lot more Japanese movies I've seen that I haven't mentioned: Tokyo Story, The Burmese Harp, Woman of the Dunes, and the incredible trilogy The Human Condition. Maybe I should make a list. I keep thinking of more and more.
I'm also interested in knowing what everyone else has seen and what they like. Except for Studio Ghibli films, I don't watch much anime. I've seen "Grave of the Fireflies", too, and it was very touching.
