Typical Saturday

DVD「Lord of the Rings」を見ました。

Generally Speaking

Austin today was unusually warm. It was 83F degrees. Every Saturday, morning my husband and I go grocery shopping. Then I mowed the lawn (cut the grass). This evening, after dinner, we watched "The Lord of the Rings" on DVD. Now he is (lying on the couch) reading a book and I'm writing (on my blog).

What did you do this weekend?

"What did you do last weekend?" I am always asked by my teacher of a conversation school, and I usually say, "I worked." Yes, I worked, but last weekend I didn't have one of the regular lessons, so I could be relaxed a bit, actually.

Last Saturday my younger son's school had a small concert, but as I needed some rest, I didn't go there.

When we cut the grass or mow the lawn, we use a verb 「刈る(かる)」, like 「私は芝生を刈りました」or 「私は草を刈りました」.

The tense of "He is reading a book" or "I'm writing" is present progressive, so it is better to say in Japanese 「彼は今本を読んでいます」 and 「私は書いています」.

Last week I talked about the differences between American cashiers and Japanese ones in my classes, and they enjoyed it very much. Especially, a belt conveyer at a cashier is the last thing they can imagine.

I spent the last weekend lying around the house. :)

Er, what I meant to say:

My friend Mark's getting married this week, so last weekend we went to Lake Tahoe and had a bachelor party. We heard that it would snow 2-4 feet, but we went anyway for some male bonding. Really, the weather wasn't that bad. We had to use chains on the way back, but driving wasn't a problem.

With all the snow falling, it really felt like winter.

Anyway, putting on the chains took a while, but we got to help out some cute college girls in the car next to us, so we took our time putting the chains on.

We went to Lake Tahoe last summer. It was beautiful. My sister in a little town north of there. It was the first time we'd been to Tahoe or to her house. Fantastic.
