It's amazing how some of the old houses remain standing. It does add a lot of character to them though. Not sure I'd want to be inside one when the next big quake hits.

The pic gives me some "natsukashii" feelings although I don't think there are that kind of houses in Hokkaido, I mean (kawara-yane) and the look of windows.

I still like taking photos of derelict buildings. Before Christmas we were driving through an old neighborhood northwest of the University of Texas--one of my favorite spots for looking at houses, when we came across this house which had burned down. Only the front porch was left standing. Such a pity. It must have been a beautiful house. I went back the other day to take photos of it. Actually I've been taking a lot of photos of houses in older Austin neighborhoods lately. Now that the trees are bare, the houses are more visible. I really like that we have so many old ones, not at all like the cities I grew up in the west (especially not like Las Vegas!)

I live in brand new house in Aomori ken. It might as well be an old one for all the protection from the elements it gives me.
