Twin Peaks Party

I had my first "Saturday Video" party and invited some of the new teachers. I met the other Melissa from Austin. She's so young. And I invited Jeanne from Beppu University (she's getting married next month and moving to Tokyo) and she brought her replacement, Jenny. Jenny is the same age (25) as my sister Jenny, and I think they look a lot alike. I really like her -- she's so exuberant. She's half Iranian and thus a wonderfully exotic beauty and yet completely unselfconscious. Like GG, she says the funniest things because she doesn't edit herself. She says stuff like, "God, when I'm your and Jeanne's age, I hope I'm just like you guys." She makes great guacamole, too.

We had Texas chili, nachos (with tortilla chips that ERS mailed). I made flour tortillas (my Mom taught me) and we had crackers, cream cheese, and jalapeno jelly. We watched Twin Peaks and I think the party was a smash. Anyway, I had a great time.

Munching nachos and watching videos just shipped from America. From left to right: Jenny, Jeanne, Tomoko, and Melissa. Not visible in the foreground are two foreign exchange high school students, Vanessa and Roxanne.

This is a pretty good shot of my apartment all opened up so you can see the two rooms, kitchen and bath. My supplies for entertaining are woefully inadequate. I only bought one floor cushion each for me and JQS. And it's too hot yet to get out the kotatsu--so we don't have a table to put the food on.

A box arrives from ERS; the first episodes of the first season of Twin Peaks. And tortilla chips. Time to party.
