New Year Visits

Yesterday I painted the kitchen wall a bright white to lessen the gloom. Since the kitchen cabinets are not built in, I just moved them forward into the room to paint behind them. I also baked biscochitos, cutting out the cookies with tiny Japanese vegetable cutters.

In evening, our next door neighbor, Negoro-san, invited us over for a dinner of okonomiyaki. Her apartment, which she shares with her father, is of course the same size as ours--two 6-mat rooms. They are so incredibly packed full of a lifetime accumulation of stuff that it is almost impossible to move around. After dinner we played card games.

Today, Murakami-sensei picked us up and drove us over to Annan-sensei's house in Kitsuki for lunch. JQS receive o-toshidama and I received a beautiful crystal bowl for flower arrangements.
