    Notes from 2009

I take JQS to the little strip of sand called Spa Beach. The water is shallow but neither the water nor the beach seems very clean or inviting. The view of Beppu Bay is obscured by a large concrete breakwaters. Although Beppu is a seaside resort, most of attraction is inland in the onsen [hot springs], not the seaside. If I remember correctly, this is the first and last time we go to the beach. During the year, we frequently biked along the beach but we never went back in the water.

    Notes from 2019

When I Google this now, the name of the beach and park is Matogahama Park. Some really nice photos of it on Google…nicer than I remember it being in 1989.
